Southern Region Mounted Games Competition Cancellation

Sadly, due to the ongoing heatwave and the venue being within a hosepipe restriction area, the ground cannot be watered. Having looked at the long-term weather forecast and with very little rain expected, the Southern Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

With the amount of planning and preparation involved in running a competition, we have had to make this decision now to avoid any further uncertainty.

Please could all team managers ensure their riders are informed that the event has been cancelled.

The Polo Festival will still go ahead as planned. However, to protect the ground, they will be holding polo without horses galloping on the hard surface.

Should we receive sufficient rainfall and conditions improve enough for mounted games to be run safely, we will look at inviting a small number of teams to compete in the main arena only, as this area has been watered. We will update everyone if this becomes possible.

Anyone who has already paid their entry fee will receive a full refund via Plain Sailing.

For anyone looking for a run before interCounties, Hampshire MGA  Hampshire MGA Pairs & Individuals will still be taking place the following weekend at Wellington on a suitable surface.

Please be assured that the Intercounties Championships will still be held on grass. The venue is able to pump water from the river to maintain the ground and ensure safe going for the competition.

Thank you all for your understanding. We know this will be disappointing, but the welfare of our horses and riders must always come first.



We will be back for 2027 with the ponies.

Southern Classics team competition will now be held over 2 days at the Royal County of BerkshirePolo Club. On the Sunday the polo club have invited us to join in on there Polo Festival. The open teams will be invited to take part in the main arena for the finals. There will be time on the Sunday to enjoy the polo festival where there will be a fun zone for the younger age group and a chance to watch some exciting polo matches. Team spaces will be limited.
